I think anyone who’s followed my blog for some time, knows I have this love affair with years gone by, well maybe it’s obvious to new readers to? I love to mix high street buys with vintage and thrift items, sadly in most recent times I’ve lacked new vintage treasures – I blame this on a number of things, lack of available time for treasure hunting in thrift stores, and working for a high street store where wearing the clothes to work in mandatory (leaving little free money for vintage shopping). No matter where I end up getting my clothes from be it vintage or vintage inspired high street garments I always seek out to create a unique look to me and often that look ends up with a nostalgic vibe, I guess it comes back to my love affair with the past.
I used to be all about the 1940’s and 50’s, the clothing from these decades congure up images of romance and celebrating the curvy female form (which works well for my figure and plays to its strengths) I used to love a good victory roll in my hair and a pinch of rockabilly, but in more recent years I’ve grown fond of the 1960’s mainly for the hair styles and music. I love the merger of fashion from the mid to late 60’s into the early 70’s (before the 70’s became full bohemian hippie) when flares were starting out, button down denim was everywhere, in skirts and dresses, stripe tee’s and baceball jerseys were daily uniform, think of films such a The Royal Tenebahams though released in 2001 it takes its style inspiration from the 70’s, I feel Margot Tenebaham has been my key inspiration for my look today.
